Ways to be involved Meetings Come and join our meetings and add your skills and ideas to our work. We include professionals, unemployed people and retired people. We all have busy lives and the work is shared and delegated. You do not have to take on more than you wish to. Awareness raising & Campaigning We organise various events throughout the year to raise awareness of human rights. Annually we invite Birmingham City Council to support human rights by getting councillors to join the general public in signing petitions and writing letters. We raise awareness of human rights by sharing information with the public and encouraging participation, as at our recent China Action Day in Birmingham city centre. See this link for pictures of the event. Newsletter Sign up for our paper or email newsletter to keep informed about our work and raise awareness amongst your friends. You may not be able to attend meetings regularly, but if you get our newsletter you could be tempted to bring a group of friends to one of our fundraising concerts, for example. Letter writing Write on behalf of our prisoner in the Xinjiang Province of China to the prison, government and judicial authorities. We can supply you with a list of addresses and a letter translated into the appropriate Chinese languages. You could also send cards to Nurhamat himself, in the hope that they get through to him and let him know that his case is known in the outside world. Even if they do not reach him the arrival of a substantial post bag will alert the prison authorities to the attention his case is receiving. Fundraising If you would like to donate money to Amnesty you can get in touch with us in order to donate to our group directly or you can donate to Amnesty International at a national level. If you are in Britain please visit the Amnesty International UK donations webpages to learn about different ways you can donate. If you are not in Britain then please contact the International Secretariat of Amnesty International to find out how to donate in your own country. If you have skills that would benefit Amnesty please contact us! Are you a musician who would like to put on a benefit concert? Perhaps you make craftwork which could be sold? Maybe you have other skills you could use? |
